4130 Alloy Steel – Hot-Wrought Alloy Steel Bars
Steel Bars. 0.95 Cr, 0.20 Mo.
Chromium-Molybdenum (Cr-Mo) Low Alloy Steel | Hot-Wrought
ASTM A322 is a standard specification published by ASTM International that covers a broad range of hot-wrought alloy steel bars intended for mechanical and structural applications. This specification includes steels like 4130 (and 4340 steel, amongst others), which are chromium-molybdenum (Cr-Mo) low alloy steels known for their strength, toughness, and versatility.
This specification covers hot-wrought alloy steel bars. Bar applications include forging, heat treating, cold drawing, machining and many structural components. The steel shall be made by one or more of the following primary processes: open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace. The primary melting may incorporate separate degassing or refining and may be followed by secondary melting using electro-slag remelting or vacuum arc remelting.
Within the limits of good manufacturing and inspection practices, the bars shall be free of injurious seams, laps, segregation, or other imperfections which, due to their nature, degree, and/or extent, will interfere with the use of the material in machining or fabrication of suitable parts.
All product forms are supplied as Hot-Wrought per ASTM A322 requirements. Custom sizes, lengths, and pre-machined forms are available upon request. Contact our materials specialists for non-standard dimensions.

4130 alloy steel is a chromium-molybdenum (Cr-Mo) low alloy steel that contains approximately 0.28–0.33% Carbon, 0.40–0.60% Manganese, 0.80–1.10% Chromium, and 0.15–0.25% Molybdenum. It is known for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, good toughness, and ease of fabrication including welding, machining, and forming. 4130 responds well to heat treatment, allowing its mechanical properties to be tailored for a wide range of demanding applications in aerospace, automotive, and structural industries. The designation "4130" reflects its chromium-molybdenum alloy chemistry per the AISI/SAE system.
Yes. All ASTM A322 material supplied by Aero-Vac is fully traceable to mill test reports (MTRs) confirming chemical composition and mechanical properties per the specification. We are AS9100D/ISO 9001 certified with a 99.6% quality rating. Every order ships with certificates of conformance, material certifications, and chemical/mechanical test reports. Electronic delivery of all documentation is available for fast turnaround. If your program requires additional special process certifications, our quality team can coordinate as needed.
Aero-Vac maintains inventory of ASTM A322 4130 alloy steel in multiple bar forms including round bars, flat bars, and hex bars in a range of standard sizes. We can provide custom-cut lengths, discs, and blocks from our in-house processing facility at the Port of Kalama. For non-standard dimensions or specialty bar forms, our team can source from our global supplier network. Contact us with your specific size requirements and we will provide a prompt quote with availability and lead time.
In-stock ASTM A322 4130 material is typically available for same-day or next-day shipment. For custom-cut or specially processed orders, our standard lead time is 2–4 weeks—significantly faster than the industry average of 8–12 weeks.
